e-voc from 10.03.2009 - Mamma Mia and German delicacies

Lately, our Johnny was extensively interviewed by the Rhein Neckar Zeitung, the local paper of his hometown Mosbach. The last question asked which three things a bass singer would take to a desert island – Johnny's answer was hardly surprising: “Three women!”
Those who know him though, and those who carefully read the interview, were perfectly aware that one of these three women must be his mother. That’s because Johnny's mom makes the world’s best German sausage salad, and so his answer to another question from this interview, “What do you look forward to most upon returning back home from your next tour?”, came quick as a shot: “Munching sausage salad and a proper pretzel at home!” Ah, Mother Gruber’s legendary sausage salad! On the day the interview was undertaken, we gave a concert near Mosbach, which offered us chance to sample lunch at the Grubers, obviously featuring this speciality of theirs. And you know what – it really is the world’s best! So with that sorted, the typical tension of a “home show” could be tackled with full energy.
It’s a weird fact, but for many artists, performing in front of their own family is the biggest challenge of all – even though it’s these folks who generally think the best of you. Micha already went through this special little mama test at the concert in Munich last December, Tobi faced it at the Weimar show in January, and it’ll be Ansgar's and Tobek's turn at our traditional home concerts in the Hannoverian Waldorf School in April:LIVE
Up next though is the first of the three USA tours this year, where we’ll be rocking the East Coast in cities like Boston, New York, Miami, Ohio, Pittsburgh and Washington D.C. You can witness us live on:
The trip’s highlight: vocaldente will present and host the Mid Atlantic regional final of the 25th Harmony Sweepstakes A Cappella Festival in Alexandria (Washington D.C.) on April 4th. You want more details on this? Don’t hesitate and take a peek at our online schedule to learn more about the exact dates and venues:LIVE

The second Asia podcast of Singapore offers a hilarious and heartwarming glimpse at a very special adventure for our five boys, giving a concert to 500 kids at the German School in Singapore, seizing the opportunity to exchange thoughts about the world and times with the future generation… these scenes will delight our moms and make up a little for us being on the road so often and extensively:VIDEOCAST And it’s because we love our moms so, that we’re planning a very special treat for them on June 20, on the day we’re celebrating vocaldente's 5th birthday in Europe’s oldest and most atmospheric natural auditorium, the Balver Caves deep in the ground of the German Westphalian Sauerland. To have them – and our friends and extended families – be part of this wonderful experience, we’ve planned shuttle buses, starting from various points to drive all the folks to the venue: From Hannover (with Ansgar's and Tobek's moms), Heidelberg (with Johnny's ma), Göttingen and many more. What will our moms say to our new CD “gold ‘n’ delicious”? Our anticipation on their verdict is again pretty mixed, both joyful and nervous – with good reason, for some parts might be viewed as somewhat rebellious against the caring parental hand: “If you mother says, don’t chew it, do you swallow it inspite” is one of the lines of the song “Does your chewing gum…”. Anyone who wants to dare a rebellious peek at vocaldente’s newest creation can do so from April onward. |
Until then though, our post US tour activities will again guide us to several gigs and shows in Northern Germany – and back again to the record studio where we’ll be working on the final mixes of the new album... and munching pizza, cause that’s the daily menu there! Johnny's favourite one’s called “Crazy Dog”, by the way. And guess why? It’s got sausage topping…
Have a wonderful start to spring 2009!
Yours, vocaldente
